When I moved from the UK to Canada, I didn’t just experience a cultural shift — I stepped into a very different hair industry. I entered this space first as a customer, and that perspective taught me a lot about beauty, expectations, and practicality.
Hair Culture, Wigs & Convenience in Canada
One of the first things I noticed was how popular wigs are in Canada, particularly human hair and synthetic wigs. Here, wigs aren’t reserved for special occasions — they’re an everyday, practical solution.
In general, Canadians tend to value ease, comfort, and low maintenance over highly styled or time-intensive looks. There’s far less emphasis on perfectly laid edges or glue-heavy installs, and more focus on what works for daily life.
How Winter Shapes Hair & Style
Canada’s long winters play a big role in this mindset. For much of the year, people are bundled up in hats, scarves, and heavy jackets just to stay warm. During these months, hair becomes more about functionality than creative expression.
It’s really during the short summer months that you see people lean into hair as a form of personal style. Outside of that window, convenience tends to take priority.
Quality, Expectations & Competition
Toronto has a large Afro-Caribbean community and many talented braiders and wig stylists. However, I noticed that quality and expectations can vary.
With braids, this sometimes shows up in uneven partings or inconsistent braid sizes. With wigs, not every install feels secure or looks as natural as it could.
Compared to the UK — where hair culture is highly fashion-driven and competitive — there’s often more pressure on professionals to deliver polished results at all times. That level of competition also helps keep pricing more accessible. In Canada, pricing can be high even when competition isn’t as strong.
How These Lessons Shaped Everbraid
What stood out most to me was how much women here value time-saving, practical hair solutions. Spending six to eight hours in a salon chair simply isn’t realistic for everyone.
These observations helped shape Everbraid. The brand was created to bridge the gap between style and practicality, offering braided wigs that are lightweight, glueless, natural-looking, and designed for real life — especially for women seeking protective styling or experiencing hair loss.
Moving to Canada didn’t just change where I lived — it changed how I understood the hair industry, and ultimately, how I built Everbraid.
